Can Help Find You?
YOUR ADDRESS IS NOT JUST FOR MAIL DELIVERY...
When lives and property are at stake, every second counts. Properly posted address numbers are a vital link to your safety. A missing, incorrect or poorly marked address can delay emergency response when seconds can mean the difference between life and death!
In the interest of public safety, Nassau County has a Street Naming and Numbering Ordinance (2003-13). This ordinance requires that all homes and businesses display a correct and visible street address.
Addressing numbers must be affixed to the front/side of the building or to a separate structure (such as a post, wall or fence) so they are clearly visible from the roadway on which the building is addressed.
Additionally:
- Building numbers shall be Arabic (not Roman or spelled out).
- House numbers must be at least 3 and one half inches tall, and business numbers must be at least 6 inches tall.
- Numbers should be durable and reflective.
- Check your address often for obstruction by paint or shrubbery.
- If your home or business is located at a distance from the road, post the address on a fence or post that is easily visible from the road access.
